Expatriate and Inpatriate Coaching

Most people who want to spend a longer period of time abroad or move to this country go through very specific phases before they adjust to their new surroundings, daily life, and culture, independently of the duration of their stay. And, as with many processes involving change, before one even arrives they experience a multitude of highs and lows that area often not taken seriously by the concerned individuals or their environments. Feelings of guilt about not being able to perform as quickly as expected, unusual fluctuations in mood, and more…these all reflect natural processes, the dimensions of which are often underestimated and which take place differently for each individual.

Exactly this is what guides expatriate or inpatriate coaching. Here, knowledge about “classic” cultural dimensions or norms is as centrally important as knowing which strategies are useful and can be implemented for each person and each family in order to ensure that the process of adjusting to the “foreign” land and people becomes a positive adventure. The open and goal-directed exchange about believed causes of misunderstandings as well as the exploration of feelings of helplessness, grudges, or resentments can help you to reflect about your own values and to uncover other ways of their expression. In the long run, coaching supports you in the process of being open to achieving a positive interaction with foreign people in a foreign land.

I offer coaching in my offices here in Bonn, on-site/in-house, or also virtually.
